M401 is an aluminum phosphate adjuvant with a typical particle size of 2-5 micromenter. It is milky suspension, which upon storage may separate into a bottom layer of white precipitates  and clear liquid in the top. A homogenous suspension can be obtained again by gentle shaking. The M403 adjuvant has amorphous structure when examined by X-ray diffraction. The point of zero charge is typically at pH5.0-55, and adsorbs proteins with isoelectric points >7.0. It is especially applicable to inactivated bacterial vaccines, viral vaccine and recombinant protein vaccines that do not adsorb to aluminum hydroxide adjuvant.

M 403 is supplied at 0.5%, 1.0%, and 2% concentration.
